Read Write Spell…wow!

Standard

People and parents of year 5 pupils… your effort in embracing the read write spell with such enthusiasm is paying off! Spelling scores on the first weeks test were sky high across the board, and the work being produced both in and out of school was great! Word searches worked, crazy cool colourful collages crafted and songs sang all make for super spelling and extra enjoyment along the way….congratulations and keep it up!

Place Value Maths Challenge!

Standard

Last Friday, before we moving onto this week’s maths focus of column addition, we tested our place value skills. Working in teams of 4 or 5 on each table to complete a number of challenges against the clock. Area’s covered included Roman numerals, number sequences, the value of digits for numbers up to 1,000,000, ordering and comparing numbers up to and over 1,000,000 as well as negative numbers and word problems covering all of these areas.

All teams did fantastically, name choices aside, and the wining team was ‘The team with no unity… ouch that’s cold’. Congratulations, prizes will be given in due course!

A special mention also to Freddie who won this weeks ‘Math’s Master of the Week’.

Hello, It is Mr Marshall here,

It is the start of a new school year and we were excited to start our new learning.

Today, in maths, we learnt about Roman Numerals and wow, it was very revealing how the Romans wrote down their numbers!

Look at these pictures above to see how we were looking and working out the tricky long numbers.

We were pretty cool at writing the numerals and sharing with our partners.
