Home learning wb 30.3.20

Standard

Good morning everyone!

I hope you’ve had a good weekend and are keeping well. I’m so impressed with how well you all worked last week and how quickly you’ve got to grips with Google Classroom. I’ve had a look at some of the Space PowerPoints and they’re fantastic. I’ll be looking through them in more detail soon and leaving you some individual comments so make sure you press “Hand it in.” If you haven’t finished yours yet, don’t worry – just hand it in when you can.

Here’s the work for this week:

Reading and P4C project:

Go to Google Classroom and look at the Prince Sana project

Read through the “Prince Sana” story.

First activity is to answer questions about the story.

Second activity – There are some questions where you will have to think a little more deeply. It might be nice to discuss these questions with your parents/carers and write some responses.

Third activity – Create the most fearful monster you can think of.

English

This week’s task is to write a story. I’ve put a picture on Google Classroom Projects which you can use to base your story on. I’ve also attached a story writing checklist for you to make sure you’ve included all the features of a story. Remember – you’ve got all week to write the story I would recommend that you start by sketching a plan – using a story mountain (attached in Projects).

Maths

There will continue to be a new My Maths lesson each day for you to complete.

Please continue with TTRS and Numbots (if you’ve been told about this)

Reading

Remember to continue to use MyOn for reading, Lexia (if you have an account) and to read your own books.

Keeping active

Links SSP have compiled a wide range of resources to help support pupils with appropriate resources.  There is a daily Joe Wicks indoor  workout that looks fun, 9am – a great way to start the day!

Any questions please contact me on Google Classroom.

Take care everyone.

Some kind person has put together a page with links to lots of useful home learning resources and activities. Definitely worth having a look through.

Yesterday at school we had a go at the Pete McKee cartoon drawing workshops which was a lot of fun:

Home learning wb 23.3.20

Standard

Good morning children,

I hope you’ve had a good weekend and are all looking after each other. As I wrote in the  previous post I will set some activities here for you to work on through the week. As Mrs. Evans said in her letter last week, 1 – 2 hours learning is what we are aiming for, but remember to make it work around your schedule and be flexible.

English

  • Super Sentence stacking project on Youtube – bit.ly/2UmEU10
  • On 3 days do 2 pages of the CGP Grammar book.
  • Extra idea – write a journal or diary entry

Reading

Daily reading, using books sent home and then completing some of the quizzes on Accelerated Reader, or read online books using MyOn. When you’ve read a book you could write a short review in Google Classroom about why you enjoyed it and why you would recommend it to others.

Additionally, parents/carers reading to children and enjoying books and stories together each day builds a love of reading, and comprehension.

If you have Lexia account – please continue to work through this.

Maths

  • MyMaths lessons – 5 a week with one to be released each day.

My Maths first level login details are – Username : stwil ; Password : Numb3rs. Children then login to their own portal using their TTRS login        https://www.mymaths.co.uk/

  • Daily TTRS or Numbots – remember – I’m always up for a challenge on TTRS

Science

Project

This week’s ‘project’ is to create a PowerPoint all about space. Remember you have all week to work on this. I have created this in Google Classroom and you should be able to save this and allow me to mark it. I will look at them on Friday.

  • Login to Google Classroom
  • Choose Year 4/5 Owl Mr Myers Class (accept your request if you haven’t already!)
  • Go to Classwork (at the top)
  • Select the Space Powerpoint

This should open your presentation in GoogleDocs for you to work on and save. To help with this I have set you some reading on MyOn. To find these books:

  • Login to MyOn
  • Choose ‘Projects’ at the top of the page
  • Choose ‘Space Presentation’

There are a few books for you to choose from. You do not have to read them all but they have lots of interesting facts and it shows you are using our science superhero: ‘Billy Bookhead’.  You might also like to use your own knowledge as well as research from the internet or books you might have at home.

Keeping fit

Links SSP have compiled a wide range of resources to help support pupils with appropriate resources.  There is a daily Joe Wicks indoor  workout that looks fun, 9am – a great way to start the day!

Working from home

Standard

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all ok and looking after each other. Tomorrow I will begin to set work from home. The idea at the moment is that I will set a number of different tasks and activities for you to complete throughout the week. We understand that everyone’s timetable will be different so we don’t want to set a fixed amount of work to do each day. Instead I will post a “menu” of tasks to do throughout the week. When you have completed one you can post it on Google Classroom which will allow me to look at and comment on it. I understand this is very new for all of you but please remember that it is new for the teachers too so there may be a few teething problems as we all get to grips with this different way of working.

Starting tomorrow there will be a live webinar from an English teacher starting at 9:45am. It is for children of all ages and parents/carers are encouraged to take part too if it all possible. If you go to The Teaching Space on YouTube and watch the video titled ‘Jane Considine’s Super Sentence Stacking’ it gives you some information about what you’ll need. I think it looks really interesting and a great way to begin the week. Don’t worry if you can’t watch it live – the video will be available to watch at any time of the day. Later on tomorrow I will post some more activities.

It’s a shame we won’t be in class together but we will stay connected in other ways. Looking forward to seeing your work and speaking to you all soon.

For children unable to come into school at the moment

Standard

Hi all,

I understand that this is a challenging time for everyone and hope that everyone is looking after themselves and staying safe. I have spoken to Mr B and Mrs Basu and they say how well everyone is working at school, and how calm and sensible you have all been. Well done – this is so great to hear!  For any children that are unfortunately unable to come in to school at the moment, there are a number of activities that they could be doing to continue with their learning.

Accelerated Reader – children can access quizzes based on books they’ve read.

www.myon.co.uk  – for reading books and online quizzes. When you first log in (TTRS details) you will fill in a survey asking what genre of books you like. Work through this then press save. Then click ‘Connect Now’ and log in again, and you should have access to different online books.

www.ttrockstars.com  – please keep up this practice. Year 4’s – remember to practise the Soundcheck. Also if anyone wants to challenge me, I would be more than happy to accept!

www.mymaths.co.uk – There are a number of activities and lessons the children can access.  Again, I will continue to add extra homework on here for the children to do.

I  would also recommend working through the CGP grammar books.

I am sorry to not be in school at the moment, but it makes me so proud to hear how well everyone has been approaching this situation and I’m looking forward to seeing you all very soon.

Mr Myers
