Alarming vehicles with the Y5s

While the Y4s were at the Oakes, the Y5s have been completing a Design and Technology project.

Our design brief was to design an alarm system that would tell a delivery van driver when their van was overloaded.

First, we thought about different vehicle alarms we had experienced and realised that they could be visual, a sound or both. We reminded ourselves about electrical components and designed our system. Then we were able to work in teams to use the real components to build an alarm system for a model van and we tested it by overloading it with building blocks! Finally we evaluated our design and thought about how we could improve it.
